BIOS

Janet Buck has specialized in the design and construction of affordable and supported housing. She has recently become a LEED accredited professional as well, and is enthusiastic about pursuing sustainable design goals in all project types.  Projects include the award-winning Brookline Family Housing, Ruth Cowin House and Bishop House - all affordable housing projects with a special needs component. She was Project Architect for the renovation of the E Building of the former Mattapan Chronic Disease Hospital into the Entre Familia Program for Latina Women and their children, and is currently working on Devens Transitional Housing for single mothers and their children.

Janet received her B.A. from Oberlin College and her professional degree from the Boston Architectural College.

Julia Smith brings an expertise in healthcare design to the firm. She was Project Architect for the award-winning Kirk Sharfenberg House for Children with AIDS in Boston. This prototype project, which was recipient of the Boston Society of Architects Excellence in Healthcare Design Award, has also been featured in several professional publications and books, including Healthcare Architecture and Interiors Magazine. She has completed a number of Adult Day Health Centers and medical office suites. In addition to this work, she has an extensive background in the design of multifamily housing and has contributed to the design of many of the firm’s supported housing projects.

Julia attended Vassar College and received her professional degree from the Rhode Island School of Design.

James McAvoy specializes in the firm's facilities rehabilitation and renovation projects.  He brings a strong practical background in construction and is a licensed Massachusetts Construction Supervisor. Mr. McAvoy has served as Project Architect for the Massport Residential Sound Insulation and Noise Mitigation Program and has overseen the acoustic treatment of close to 300 individual units of housing. He has also been responsible for renovations and upgrades to a wide variety buildings for the Public Facilities Department of Boston and numerous public housing authorities.

Jim received his professional degree from the Architectural Association of London.
